Poached Breakfast Cafe is the only spot you’ll need to please both your sweet tooth and your savoury side. With our kick-a*se Melbourne inspired menu and our on site bakery, we serve only the very best in Aussie cafe classics. You’re not bread-y for this!
We don’t sell bread on its own but we did buy a bakery to ensure all our bread based dishes were up to the highest standard. All our fantastic, flavourful sourdough is baked fresh on site. And you can order this with butter or as part of one of our delicious breakfast dishes such as our pulled pork eggs benny. Picture this: slow cooked roasted pork shoulder that falls apart in your mouth and shreds of tart green apple slaw. Smother that with rich apple cider hollandaise, and 2 creamy poached eggs, all topped with pomegranate and mint and you’ve got yourself a winning dish.
Or, keep things simple with our smashed avocado on toast, topped with roasty tomatoes, crumbly feta and 2 perfectly poached eggs. Of course, we’ve got lots of other eggs-cellent dishes featuring sourdough if that’s what floats your boat.

Valen Cafe
Valen Cafe is not only super aesthetic but super delicious. Located in a picturesque white house with a tin roof and Japanese style decor, it also boasts a vibrant green garden for you to catch some rays and connect with nature.
This cafe specialises in sweet baked goods and they really do a great job at this. Their cakes and tarts are stunning, topped with fruit and edible flowers. Try their beautiful crepe cake, their fantastic brownies, or fruity tarts.
Truly, every time without fail, we struggle to order because everything looks so dang good. This spot, nestled in nature, is well worth a visit if you’re after a sweet bakery in Chalong.
The Boulangere
If you’re hoping for a French style bakery in Chalong, The Boulangere is the only place to go. Their menu is simple with 4 sizes of baguettes and a few classic French pastries but they do what they do fantastically.
They bake the bread fresh, so it’s always warm and right from the oven. You have that delicious crunch and soft interior that is fluffy and light.
Don’t forget to grab a warm pain au chocolat before you leave. The layers are light, the chocolate is high quality and melty, the pastry is buttery and it’s absolutely spectacularly satisfying. We haven’t tasted a better one – even in Paris!
La Tarte Dorée
Last, but certainly not least, La Tarte Dorée is slightly out of Chalong’s city limits but it’s truly fantastic. This one serves a range of French style pastries and is absolutely wonderful. Our favourite is the strawberry tart. Fresh, sweet and juicy strawberries nestled in a silky smooth vanilla crème pâtissière all inside a sweet, crumbly shortcrust pastry. SO GOOD!
